Members “Alerted” to Phishing Scam via DigitalMailer's e-LERTs
Credit Union clients alert thousands of members to Phishing scam at the “push of a button.”
(Herndon, VA, May 2, 2005) - DigitalMailer, Inc. used its e-LERT email marketing and alert service on behalf of its credit union clients to notify thousands of credit union members about the most recent “phishing” scam involving the National Credit Union Administration and its website.
Thousands of credit union members who provided email addresses as part of their credit union's eStatement and e-LERT services, received timely, “special notice” alerts warning them of the recent “phishing” scam directed at the NCUA, and educating them on what to expect from their credit union via email.
“Our e-LERT service made it possible for our client credit unions to act quickly to inform their members about this recent email scam,” said DigitalMailer's CEO, Ron Daly. “Security e-LERTs are becoming an inexpensive way to educate and inform members, and to battle online identity theft,” he added.
A recent Wall Street journal article reported that 73% of consumers surveyed “highly valued” e-mail alerts relating to unusual bank-account transactions; and 72% wanted to be able to receive immediate electronic alerts of suspicious transactions in a debit or credit card account.

“Security e-LERTs are quickly becoming one more reason for a member to give their credit union their email address,” said Ron Daly. “And, it is important to note that in this age of unwanted email, we rarely see security e-LERTs reported as spam. Both the subject matter and our approach to preference-based email alerts, promote member participation.”
