Herndon, Va. (June 15, 2009) – Herndon, Va. (June 15, 2009) – With just "one click," credit unions are finding
significant cost savings, while adding increased security and convenience for their
members. The new "One Click" e-statement enrollment program, offered through
DigitalMailer and available to clients and non-clients alike, has credit unions seeing real
results:
• Belvoir Federal Credit Union, from Fort Belvoir, Va., has offered e-statements
for seven years, averaging about 125 new e-statements loaded per month. In the
first month after initiating "One Click," the credit union loaded 472 new e-
statements – 4.5 times greater than its typical enrollment. And subsequent months
running the promotion continue to show significant growth in adoption. With help
from "One Click," the credit union has generated a five-percent growth rate in a
seven-year-old product.
• Hudson River Federal Credit Union, based in Glenn Falls, N.Y., experienced a
20% growth in e-statement enrollments following the "One Click" promotion. In
the first eight days, 339 members enrolled in e-statements, up significantly from
its monthly average enrollment of 84 members.
• Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union, in Columbia, S.C., sent its "One
Click" email out to more than 6,000 members. The emails were delivered in less
than 2 minutes and recorded a 33 percent open rate. And after just 6 days, 697
members had clicked the "I Agree" button to enroll in e-statements.
The recent increases in postage costs, along with the expenses of paper and printing, have
made mailed statements even more costly for credit unions. DigitalMailer estimates credit
unions spend around $1 per every paper statement they mail. But switching members
from paper to online can be challenging, as the federal E-Sign Act prohibits institutions
from simply moving all online customers to e-statements. Instead, members must sign up
to receive electronic statements instead of paper ones – something many have been
reluctant to do.
DigitalMailer's "One Click" campaign makes the e-statement enrollment process easier.
The campaign offers members an opportunity to sign up for e-statements by clicking on a
single button in an email they receive from their credit union. DigitalMailer provides the
credit union with email templates, which they can customize, and then sends the credit
unions' emails over its certified distribution system, which tracks and confirms delivery
rates.
"Members love this campaign because they don't have to fill out a lengthy enrollment
page," says Traci McNamara, Account Manager at DigitalMailer. "There's no need for
them to enter personal information such as their account number, Social Security number,
email address, or name. Members just click the button – and the "one click" program
takes care of the rest."
There are other e-statement benefits for members, too, says McNamara, such as increased
security by eliminating statements being delivered to unattended mailboxes. Members
also receive their statements much quicker – having immediate online access compared to
the wait time with paper statements being printed, prepared for mailing and delivered.
And record keeping is another key benefit, as e-statement members can retrieve their
current and 18 months of past statements through an online archive.
"E-statements provide increased benefits to members and increased savings for credit
unions," says McNamara. "DigitalMailer's ‘One Click' campaign results in a win-win for
everyone."
