Herndon, VA (July 20, 2009) - It was a dance to remember.
DigitalMailer, Inc. was among the donors making possible the Night of Magic ball for the patients of Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., an event hosted by Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation (NWFCU Foundation). The ball coincided with prom season, so patients who missed their typical proms and father-daughter dances had the opportunity to dress up and take part in a special evening. Patients selected party attire, jewelry and accessories donated by credit union and community members.
Credit union staff and volunteers transformed the hospital's atrium into a ballroom where more than 100 patients danced, ate, made arts-and-craft projects, and watched professional hip-hop and swing-dance performances - all while forgetting their illnesses and worries. As one parent said, "My son spends 99 percent of his life here. It was a breath of fresh air not only for me, but especially for him. To finally see a smile on his face - simply priceless."
NWFCU President/CEO and NWFCU Foundation Chairman Gerrianne Burks agreed. "This night has been one of the most rewarding evenings for me," she said. "NWFCU employees, members and supporters gave from their hearts and truly made a difference in many young kid's lives tonight. What a fantastic and meaningful way to show how credit unions can make a difference."
DigitalMailer, which has provided Northwest Federal Credit Union digital communication and e-marketing services for several years, supports the NWFCU Foundation's efforts to make a difference in the community, said Ron Daly, President/CEO. "There's no question: The Foundation does important work. And events such as the Night of Magic highlight the significant impact the Foundation is making on people in the community," he said. "DigitalMailer is very proud to support these efforts."
Along with DigitalMailer, several local businesses and individuals provided monetary and in-kind donations to support the Night of Magic ball. Students from Herndon High School made
boutonnieres, corsages and jewelry, as well as collected clothing for the patients to wear during the event. The students also volunteered their time to help patients select their ball attire.
