NEWS RELEASE Calm in the face of the storm: Keys FCU uses DigitalMailer’s Crisis Notification System in preparation of Fay Herndon, Va. (Aug. 19, 2008) – On Sunday afternoon, with forceful winds and ominous skies signaling the approach of Tropical Storm Fay, Keys Federal Credit Union had to get an update to its members – fast. Members needed storm-related information on accessing their funds, branch closures and plans for the credit union’s contingency operations. Keys FCU called DigitalMailer for urgent assistance, and using its online crisis management system, DigitalMailer staff crafted an emergency email alert and distributed it to more than 3,000 Key FCU members within minutes.“You prepare for situations like these, but when an emergency hits, there’s a million things a credit union needs to take care of,” said Ron Daly, President/CEO of DigitalMailer. Keys Federal Credit Union, a $197 million institution based in Key West, Fla., serving 15,000 members living and working throughout the Florida Keys, has had the emergency email module of the notification system in place for more than two years. The Keys FCU staff activated the emergency notification process on Sunday afternoon via the hotline and submitted the message content to be delivered to their members. DigitalMailer’s team sprang into action, finalized the email alert and distributed it within minutes to the members of Keys FCU, alerting them to branch closures and providing important CU information. DigitalMailer’s Crisis Management Notification System is an email alert and text-messaging tool that distributes critical messages to members, as well as employees, for disaster planning and training. The system replaces manual disaster-planning phone trees and cumbersome paging systems with a high-speed platform that automatically delivers email and text messages to recipients on any communication device at hand. “We were glad to help the Keys’ staff, and it was a reminder to us all of the importance of having contingency plans,” said Daly. “In an emergency, traditional communication methods may not be accessible or reliable. But with email and text, members can access messages on their laptops or mobile phones. It doesn’t negate the need for recording phone messages or posting Website notices, but it certainly enhances the effectiveness of communications and gets the word out quickly.” About DigitalMailer, Inc.
