To blog or not to blog: DigitalMailer making name in CU blogoshere
Drawing on e-communications expertise, company hosts & moderates industry blogs

Herndon, Va. (Nov. 6, 2008) – With the season for stump speeches fresh in our minds, the credit union industry has a new resource for information and opinion sharing: www.CUSoapbox.com. Created in the spirit of those early speakers’ corners, where citizens stood on real soapboxes to get their points across, the new blog is the latest online platform hosted and built by DigitalMailer.

“Blogs bring people together like no other media can and provide a great channel for credit unions to stay connected to their members,” said Ron Daly, president/CEO of DigitalMailer, Inc. and the new blog’s moderator. “With expertise in e-communications and marketing, it makes sense for DigitalMailer to offer blog development as an extension of our other product offerings.”

DigitalMailer currently hosts two other credit union industry-related blogs: www.clickconnectcommunicate.com, providing insights and news on digital communication; and the DigitalMailer blog available at www.digitalmailer.com, with commentary on credit union technology and business-financial news. The newest blog DigitalMailer has created is CUSoapbox.com, launched in partnership with Credit Union Journal. “We’re delighted the Journal has become one of the first to jump on our new service – especially because of the CUSoapbox.com novel approach,” said Daly. “The Journal’s decision to encourage honest conversation and “tell-it-like-it-is” commentary is refreshing, adding a new dimension to our industry.”

Frank Diekmann, publisher of Credit Union Journal, sees the blog as providing the credit union community a chance to engage in lively debate and discussion. “CU Soapbox.com provides a spot to ‘sound off’ on various subjects,” he said.

The blog pulls from top news stories in both the financial and general media. It’s designed to encourage comment on issues of the day, and includes a special, new feature offered by DigitalMailer – the “Newsreel” section. Each day, DigitalMailer will use its search engines to locate and link CU stories from across the web as they publish in the Associated Press sites and break on Credit Union Journal’s site.

“Someone may say, ‘I don’t know the issue of the day,’ so how do I weigh in?’,” said Daly. “Now, they can turn to CUSoapbox.com and have access the latest news. We want readers to comment on news as it breaks – that’s how we built CUSoapbox,” he said. As the moderator, Daly welcomes candor – even biting comments; however, he asks that posts be civil. “It’s okay to be animated in your posts – even a little bickering is okay. But as we say on the blog, ‘we want to make connections, not conniptions.”
