Cavion Plus adds DigitalMailer's e-LERT service to eCommerce offerings Industry business partners team up to enhance credit union members' online experience (Herndon, VA, May 9, 2005) - Allowing members to specify when and why they want to receive email alerts from their credit union will enhance their online experience. Cavion Plus is significantly expanding this capability for credit unions by offering DigitalMailer, Inc.'s e-LERT service, the two companies announced today. DigitalMailer President Ron Daly said e-LERTs enable credit unions to promote financial services using email alerts in a preference-based format. Members choose which types of email notifications they wish to receive from tell me when categories selected by their credit union. Members' ability to select and manage their alerts is a vital element of DigitalMailer's e-LERT service, said Nathan Coltvet, Director of Product Management for Cavion Plus. Consumers are besieged by uninvited email marketing, so the last thing credit unions want to do is send more email that could be perceived as spam. The e-LERT service allows members to choose the type of credit union e-mail messages that enter their inboxes. For example, members might opt to receive messages about a decrease in vehicle loan rates or a special offer promising higher rates on certificates of deposit (CDs). Giving members control over email messages helps position the credit union as a financial partner, rather than an unsolicited vendor. Coltvet noted that the partnership between DigitalMailer and Cavion Plus combines the marketing opportunity created by the e-LERT product with the real-time strength of Cavion Plus' Internet Banking Account Alerts product. Account Alerts are real-time email alerts based on account thresholds or specific transactions pre-selected by the member, while e-LERTs are triggered by events that create a marketing opportunity for the credit union. Offering both types of alerts creates a superior product for credit unions by combining information that the member wants to receive with information the credit union wants to deliver, Coltvet said. A recent study by Forrester Research confirms that giving customers the ability to choose their email alerts is essential for financial institutions that wish to deepen customer relationships. In a report released on April 4, 2005, Forrester's Brad Strothkamp said that while only 26 percent of U.S. online consumers now receive alerts from their financial provider, that figure will grow dramatically as institutions educate their customers on the value of alerts and provide the right kind of alerts. In the Forrester report, Strothkamp said consumers who access their financial accounts online are most interested in alerts in three categories: preemptive alerts, which enable customers to take action to solve problems or circumvent fees; account-based alerts, which help them monitor their money; and product-purchase alerts, which provide updates on the status of applications or renewals. Coltvet said the authenticated email feature offered by the e-LERT service also benefits credit unions because it helps ISPs verify that members are receiving wanted notices. Without this service, many emails might be intercepted by ISPs' anti-spam measures.
